music_ipodIf I couldn’t listen to music I don’t know what I’d do. When music is playing I just want to dance and sing. I like rock music best but country music and some fast classical music are also good to dance and sing to.

Music is played in my house a lot. It’s been like that ever since I was a baby, but it was probably like that even before I was born. Ever since my dad got his iPod music is played even more. My whole family likes it and dances and sings with each other. That sounds a little crazy but it’s so much fun. I like seeing my family’s different dances and when my dad pretends he’s a rock star it’s pretty funny. Sometimes I break dance and my sister likes to do ballet. My little brother likes to look like a rapper which is hilarious because he’s only 4. My mom likes to dance with us and spin us around. Sometimes she dances all crazy and makes us laugh. My dad likes to pick us up and then he dances while he sings to us. I’m getting a little too big to be picked up so that really doesn’t happen for me anymore. That’s OK though because I still like to dance on my own.

There are lots of really good songs that I love to listen to more than others. Three of my favourite bands are The Killers, Nickelback and Green Day because I like their sound and they have a strong beat in a lot of their music. I don’t really have a favourite Killers song because I like them all. I like some more than others like The River is Wild, Spaceman, and Read My Mind. Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake me up when September ends, Know your Enemy, 21 guns and American Idiot are my Green Day favourites and Saving Me and Gotta Be Somebody are the Nickleback songs that I like best. I have to be careful when I sing some Nickleback songs because they sometimes swear so I either lip synch them or not just pretend they aren’t there. That way I won’t get into trouble or people might think I’m a rude kid and I don’t want my little sister and brother to learn these words from me. When I play these songs they make me feel happy and I just want to sing! There are other songs I like from Marianas Trench, Stabilo, The Watchmen, Hinder and other bands too, but if I listed all of the songs that I like it would probably take a month to write them all down. Who wants to sit and write for that long? Not me. That’s for sure.

On my last birthday I got an mp3 player too so I can listen to these songs whenever I want. I have to get better at remembering where I put it last and to recharge it so I can play them whenever I want to listen to music. Since I can take my mp3 player anywhere I just need to remember where I am because suddenly singing and dancing in Wal-Mart or Superstore might seem a little wierd.

What is your music to listen to?

IMG_5367Before my field trip to the Big House last Thursday I’d only seen the inside of one in a book. I have seen the outside of another one in Bamfield. I was excited to see what would happen in the Big House. During the performances I  never knew what was going to happen next. It was a lot of fun but I thought I might be a little scared of the Wild Woman but that story and dance actually turned out quite funny. If I was dancer here I would be scared performing in front of such a big audience. I was surprised that there was dirt as a floor but it made sense because the Big House now is just like the Big House from a long time ago and they didn’t have flooring back then. They are going to be getting a new roof soon. It will be metal so pigeons and other things can’t come through it anymore. In the middle of a dance I saw a pigeon come in through a hole in the roof and later the man hosting, Andy Everson, told us about the metal roof. I think some people might be sad about this because the Big House won’t be the same. I learned that Aboriginal people used songs and dance to help them work together like in the paddle song. They also told stories to help teach things. It’s really important for Aboriginal people to pass on their stories with dances so the younger kids knew all the things that have been passed down for years in their culture. I think dancing would help the kids remember more than  just a bunch of words.  I really liked learning about the Big House and I hope that I get to visit it again sometime soon.
